22nd – 29th June 2023
Conference is not just an event, it’s the central governing body of the Connexion, and meets every year in a different part of the country. Conference represents both clergy and lay people, and it determines church policy.
Every year, the Methodist Church in Britain gathers for conference, where the church passes new policies and resolutions, shares expertise and insights, and joins together for worship and fellowship as the representative body of every district of the Church.
In 2023, Methodist Conference is taking place in Birmingham, and is beginning on Thursday 22nd June.
This year, the All We Can team will be joining for the whole conference, starting with Presbyteral Conference (the clergy conference) on Thursday 22nd June.
We’ll be talking to conference delegates and guests about their local churches, districts and communities, and getting to know what makes their local contexts so special to them.
At All We Can, we believe in local communities. This is expressed in the partnership model we follow with our international partners – in our humanitarian work, and in the long-term development projects and social enterprises we support.
This year, we want to hear from churches in the UK about their local communities. We wanttohear about the challenges, opportunities, headaches – and the joys – of being locally-led, locally sustained, and locally inspired.
Methodist Conference is an event like no other. It’s busy, and it’s great fun!
How do we ‘do’ social justice in a strategic way? Should we have a proper plan for how to engage partners, churches and individuals?
We think so. But it’s important to get this right.
Conference 2023 will be discussing the much-anticipated work of its ‘Walking with Micah’ project, which was established to listen to the whole church and discern a way forward for this important part of the work of the Church. All We Can is excited to see what conclusions and suggestions Conference makes, and to celebrate the central place of social justice efforts within the life of the UK Church.
Conference will continue into next week, ending on Thursday 29th June. This Sunday will also offer a celebration of the welcoming into full Connexion – and the ordinations of – new presbyters and deacons. Be sure to follow us on social media and join our mailing list for updates throughout the conference, and for exclusive content after the event!
