Badminton Road Methodist Church is the collection point for food products for Barnabas Aid and a volunteer comes to cafe on Wednesdays, transports the goods to the Barnabas Aid Centre in Swindon and also gives his time in the preparation for the distribution and packing process. On the 22nd October I was privileged to visit the Barnabas Aid offices and Warehouse and hear with many others how the project works and how it provides food to the Christian communities in countries such as Jordan, Ukraine, Sudan, Nigeria and Palestine, to name just a few. Food to those Christians who have little or no food through — drought-poverty-persecution-terrorism. Some of you may question as I did how the distribution works when it arrives – well I can tell you that all the food goods and other items are delivered to Christian Churches(this is Barnabas Policy) and they are then responsible for the distribution to the Christian people. NONE of these goods get into the countries government or local council hands. Being impressed with what I saw and heard I have set all at Wednesday Cafe a challenge. Fill a box (Barnabas box or shoe box size) with goods obtainable from Supermarkets, ie. Rice, Salt, Sugar, Lentils, Chick Peas and other pulses – dried peas, dried beans, all with at least 10months bbd and bring the full boxes (I hope) tied with a ribbon to Wednesday Cafe before end of November. It is then hoped that the boxes and café people will be photographed (maybe Downend Voice) and the volunteer will then ensure that the boxes will get to Swindon and be prepared for onward delivery and distribution to the various Christian communities. From your homes to theirs Barnabas Aid will provide with your help. Don Edwards
